UNITY CUP 2018: THE REVIVAL OF GRASSROOT FOOTBALL AT AKINOLA, ABORU LAGOS

DOCTOR KOLA FC GOAL AGAINST CHRIST DIVINE FC

Even as we look forward to knowing which of the teams will win Final /Third place in the ongoing Ifesowapo/Aboru community football competition, let us analyse how each of the team who are in the final stage remained in the competition till now.

The UNITY CUP 2018 is an initiative of one of the Notable member of the Community SAHEED ADETOLA (JAGABAN) with the aim of bringing back fun and gamesto the community like it use to be.

The Competition Consist of 16 teams which were group into four:

Group A-Jagaban, TFK, Sir Murphy, Awise

Group B- Breeze FC, Murphy FC, KabiesiObama, Alfa Asso.

Group C- Doctor Kola, AK Obama, Peter Abatan, Christ Divine

Group D-Baly FC, Shevkay, Baba Oja, Abundant Life.

From the initial grouping with four teams in each group respectively, after the first set of Match, two teams from each group qualified for the quarter final which are:

Group A : Jagaban FC and TFK

Group B: Breeze FC and Kabiesi Obama FC

Group C: Doctor Kola FC and AK Obama FC

Group D: Baby FC and Shevkay

The Quarter Final brawl goes as thus:

QUARTER FINAL

JAGABAN 3 vs AK OBAMA

DOCTOR KOLA 0 vs 2 TFK

BREEZE FC 0 vs 1 BALY FC

SHEVKAY 2 VS 2 KABIESI OBAMAPEN. (4 - 5)

After an intriguing match between the eight teams who made it to the quarter final,the four teamswho made it to the semi final also played to see who qualifies for the final and who instead of leaving the game without a win comes third place.

The semi final was intense as it gave us a view of a final before the finals. Neither of the team scored a goal against the other so both games ended up with penalty shootouts which resulted to The Kabiesi obama FC and Jagaban Fc advancing to the Final of the UNITY CUP 2018, While Baly Fc go up against TFK FC for the Third Place.
