BLATTER SHOWERED WITH FAKE MONEY

Sepp Blatter showered with fake money at FIFA press conference... a befitting embarrassment for a farcical tenure

Lame duck FIFA president Sepp Blatter opened the way for Michael Platini to succeed him at the head of world football during yet another farcical pantomime show in Zurich.

Blatter finally admitted categorically for the first time that he wouldn't be standing again when the FIFA Congress vote for his successor on February 26 with England's FIFA ExCo member David Gill personally endorsing Platini's expected candidature.

But that was after serial British prankster Simon Brodkin had interrupted the start of the press conference inside FIFA's supposedly super secure headquarters on the outskirts of Zurich by showering a wad of fake US dollars over Blatter's head.

Walking calm as you like up to a stunned Blatter in the media auditorium, Brodkin shouted the dollars were the first installment of North Korea's bid for the 2026 World Cup.

Brodkin, better known by his stage name Lee Nelson, managing to evade FIFA's specialist security force Delta so easily is a sign of the pre-occupied turmoil surrounding the tarnished organisation engulfed in corruption scandals. FIFA believe Brodkin, who was taken away by Swiss police, had obtained credentials from an accredited member of the media.
