Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has given a strong indication that Sergio Ramos will remain at the club this summer.
Ramos, 29, has been strongly linked with Manchester United and has yet to be offered an extension to his current Real contract, which expires in 2017.Real allowed long-serving goalkeeper Iker Casillas to join Porto at the weekend despite the club captain being under contract for another two seasons, but Perez appears to have no intention of allowing Ramos, who is set to be named captain, to follow him out of the Bernabeu.
"The players who are under contract and leave, it's because they want to," he told the media. "Then there are players who are under contract and leave, and others who the club don't want to leave. Those players will not depart."
Ramos has reportedly asked Real to listen to offers for his services after 10 years at the club.
The centre-back has been a key player for the side since his arrival from Sevilla in a €27 million deal in 2005, but is said to feel undervalued and to have been upset that club made no comment when Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Majo claimed he had been offered the opportunity to sign him to boost his election campaign.Ramos, who earns €6 million net per season through wages and endorsements, is also said to be unhappy that he had not been offered a new contract.
According to the Spanish press, United are willing to offer the player €10m net per season and Real have no intention of reaching that figure, but sources told ESPN FC last month that Los Blancos planned to block all offers for Ramos.
Marca reported on Tuesday that Ramos remains intent on leaving but a ceasefire may now be necessary.
Ramos is one of 24 Real players to have travelled to Melbourne, Australia, to begin the club's preseason tour under new coach Rafa Benitez
