Bale set for spell on sidelines

Gareth Bale

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane will allow winger Gareth Bale enough time to recuperate from his ankle injury before calling on his services.
The 11-time Champions League winners extended their lead at the top of La Liga to four points when they returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Real Sociedad on Sunday evening.

The return of midfielders Luka Modric and James Rodriguez, from muscle and calf injuries respectively, are imminent, which allows Zidane room for Bale’s full recuperation.
“Our idea is to have Luka back next week. We will see [how he is] on Tuesday and the same goes for James,” he told Sky Sports.
“Gareth will take a while longer. He is now on the training pitch in boots which is a good sign, but we have to take it slowly.”
Zidane also highlighted his side’s recent dismal form. They have won only one of their last five games and were knocked out of the quarter-finals in a Copa del Rey clash with Celta Vigo.
“It is what it is. We can’t think about the Cup anymore because we are out.
“We would have preferred to still be in it, but we have to think positively and we are going to have a full week to prepare first for La Liga and then the Champions League.”
