Borussia Dortmund would consider selling star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has said.
The 27-year-old has been a revelation for the Bundesliga side since joining from Saint-Étienne in 2013.
The Gabon front man has an impressive ratio of 116 goals in just 198 games for Dortmund, and while the club have reportedly rebuffed a number of interested parties to retain their lethal goalgetter, that might be about to change.
Watzke says the club would consider selling Aubameyang for 80million Euros.
He was quoted as saying by Kicker TV: “We can never guarantee that a player will stay with Borussia Dortmund forever, but our strength is to always find new solutions.
“Auba was our alternative to ‘the world ending’ after [Robert] Lewandowski’s departure [to Bayern Munich].
“With an 80million [euro] offer, I would be thinking about [club president] Reinhard Rauball and [sporting director] Michael Zorc – if we had one [an offer], we would have to get together with Pierre-Emerick [to discuss it].
“We always have to differentiate between situations where there is such an offer, but we have no pressure. I would prefer it if no offer came.”
Aubameyang recently said that Dortmund cannot compete with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, with Watzke adding: “[He] is definitely good enough to go to an even bigger club. There are only a few, but I’m glad to read that it’s a good idea to go to Barcelona.”
Aubameyang will rejoin his teammates after Gabon’s unsuccessful Africa Cup of Nations tournament where they were eliminated at the group stages – with Aubameyang having scored all two of his side’s goals scored.
