There were eight games played in the NBA Monday night with some great performances from African players. In particular, Nigerian-American guard Victor Oladipo in the Indiana Pacers’ win over the Orlando Magic and Cameroonian center Joel Embiid in the Philadelphia 76ers’ loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Pacers dazzle Magic
The Indiana Pacers beat the Orlando Magic 121-109 on the back of Oladipo’s 26 points, six rebounds, five assists and four blocks, Bojan Bogdanovic had 22 points, Domantas Sabonis had 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists, Lance Stephenson had 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Miles Turner also had 18 points with four rebounds.
Orlando was led by Jonathan Simmons with 21 points, Nikola Vucevic had a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double, Aaron Gordon had 16 points and six rebounds, Elfrid Payton had 15 points and five assists, while Algerian-French forward Evan Fournier finished with 12 points and four assists.
Cavaliers down Sixers
A 30-point, 14-rebound double-double from LeBron James saw the Cleveland Cavaliers defeat the Philadelphia 76ers 113-91. Dwyane Wade had 15 points, four rebounds and five assists, Jeff Green had a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double, and Kevin Love finished with 13 points.
Cameroonian center Joel Embiid led Philadelphia with a 30-point, 11-rebound double-double, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot had 12 points and five rebounds, while JJ Redick and TJ McConnell combined for 22 with 12 points apiece.
Blazers take New York
The Portland Trail Blazers beat the Knicks 103-91 in New York. Damian Lillard had 32 points and five rebounds, Pat Connaughton had 17 points, Jusuf Nurkic and CJ McCollum combined for 24 with 12 points each and Liberian-American Noah Vonleh ended the game with eight points and 12 rebounds.
New York was led by Kristaps Porzingis with 22 points and seven rebounds, Tim Hardaway Jr had 16 points and four rebounds, Courtney Lee had 14 points, and Kyle O’Quinn had eight points and 11 rebounds.
Rockets hit Nets
The Houston Rockets defeated the Brooklyn Nets 117-103 on the back of James Harden’s 37-point, 10-rebound double-double, Congolese/Angolan-Swiss center Clint Capela had 20 points and six rebounds, Ryan Anderson had 13 points, and Eric Gordon ended the game with 12 points and four rebounds.
Isaiah Whitehead led Brooklyn with 24 points, Spencer Dinwiddie had 14 points, four rebounds and seven assists, Caris LeVert had 13 points and six assists, while Sean Kilpatrick ended the game with 12 points and six rebounds.
The Rest
The Detroit Pistons game the Boston Celtics their fourth loss of the season, beating them 118-108, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Dallas Mavericks 115-108 on the back of LaMarcus Aldridge’s 33-point, 10-rebound double-double, the Sacramento Kings beat the Golden State Warriors 110-106, and the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 120-115 on Lou Williams’ 42 points.
