Liverpool close in on £46m deal for Marco Reus

Liverpool have been cleared to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus after the German club lined up a replacement for the winger, reports the Metro.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has been looking to make a marquee signing this summer and has bookmarked Reus as the man he wants to bring to Anfield.

A fee of £46 million has been touted by the report, but a replacement for the German international has been a major hindrance for Dortmund.

However that appears to now be nearly sorted with a move for Ajax’s Davy Klaassen set to be completed by new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Reus joined Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012 and has impressed in both the domestic and national scene for the club. The 26-year-old struggled with injuries last season but still scored seven goals in 20 league outings for the Black and Whites, helping them to a seventh placed finish in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have undergone a mini-spree during the summer in a bid to once again qualify for the Champions League.

Rodgers has spent large transfer fees in bringing Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino to the club, while Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner and Danny Ings are just a couple of other signings completed so far.

However a deal for Reus would surely top them all with the transfer fee suggested set to topple the £35 million Liverpool paid for Andy Carroll in January 2011.
