Justin Tenger had the substitute to thank for pulling
his side back into it after cancelling out Tunde Adeniji’s opener at
the Aper Aku Stadium on Sunday
Sunshine Stars were forced to a 1-1 draw by Lobi Stars in a Nigeria Professional Football League game played on Sunday evening.Tunde Adeniji, who was returning to the Akure Gunners following card suspension, put his side ahead before substitute Obioma Arinze ensured the home team rallied to earn a share of the spoils after a dramatic encounter at the Aper Aku Stadium in Markurdi.
Adeniji applied a clinical finish to give the visitors a well-deserved lead in the 64th minute; but the celebration was short lived six minutes later, when Arinze combined well with another substitute Anthony Okpotu to level scores for his side.
The goal gave Justin Tenger’s team something to shout about, Kennedy Boboye on the other hand will rue a missed opportunity to remain atop the NPFL log ahead of arguably their fiercest rivals, Enyimba.
Although the Markurdi based team controlled much of the second period, they failed to get the much needed victory that could have fetched them their four home win of the season.
With this result, Sunshine Stars remain atop the Nigeria top-flight log with 30 points as Enyimba failed to beat Abia Warriors in a league derby.
