Manchester United have held talks to sign Alexandre Pato

 
Manchester United have held talks to sign Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato, but are unsure about whether or not to conclude a deal for the Brazil international.

This is according to the Telegraph, who revealed last week that both United and Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign the 25-year-old for £11 million before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

United could sign Pato as a potential replacement for Javier Hernandez, who has been informed by Louis van Gaal that he is free to leave Old Trafford in the next three days.

Van Gaal handed Hernandez an opportunity to shine in the second half of last Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off round second leg.
However, the Mexico international endured a nightmare cameo, first hitting a penalty wide before missing the target from a yard out minutes later.

Pato would be a big risk

But if Hernandez leaves, it’s imperative that Manchester United sign another striker before the window closes.
Pato would be a risk. The former AC Milan striker was once billed as a future superstar but, sadly, has failed to fulfil his immense potential so far in his career.


Injuries have hindered his progress over the past seven or eight years, but at £11 million Van Gaal may believe it’s a risk worth taking.

United desperately need another striker

Certainly, Van Gaal needs to bolster his attacking options if Manchester United are to stand any realistic chance of winning the Premier League or Champions League titles this term.
Wayne Rooney is the Red Devils’ only established striker, aside from Hernandez.

James Wilson is still young, while the idea of Marouane Fellaini playing upfront might be enough to convince Manchester United fans to hand back their season tickets.
